Six Sustainability Stories for Global Recycling Day
2024-04-01 ICCSD

On March 18, the Global Recycling Foundation celebrates Global Recycling Day 2024 to highlight the importance of recycling and the role it plays in contributing to an environmentally stable planet and a greener future. This year, the theme is #RecyclingHeroes, celebrating the people, businesses and activities that support the recycling effort.

With this in mind, here are some of our own customers that are doing their part to contribute to a more sustainable future:

ECCUS: Freeing up precious surface land

Targeted at the technology, energy, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and logistics industries, ECO-Caverne™ is an underground storage facility developed by Swiss design and build contractor ECCUS to free up surface land for more beneficial and sustainable uses. Instead of building huge data centers that take up thousands of square feet, ECCUS’s subterranean storage unit can be built under existing facilities. It also dispenses heat to reduce energy requirements in industrial buildings on the surface and serve local communities.

EVUM Motors: A sustainable mobility solution for everyone

The aCar from EVUM Motors is a new breed of modular electric utility vehicle designed for the mobility needs of rural populations. This electric 4×4 has a range of up to 200km and is powered by a 48V battery with solar panels on the roof to generate additional electricity. Its modular design makes it easy to outfit the aCar for different users, including tradesmen, vineyard workers and landscapers.

Harbinger: Energy-efficient and cost-effective medium-duty trucks

Harbinger is the California-based startup behind a pioneering chassis for battery-electric Class 4 to Class 7 vehicles, such as delivery vans and school buses. Harbinger’s scalable chassis –– is designed to improve the driver experience, enhance performance and safety, and reduce running costs. To encourage widespread adoption, the medium-duty EV will be priced to compete with gas and diesel-powered trucks.

Metsä Board: Greener, recyclable packaging

Finland-based paperboard company Metsä Board has earned a reputation as a frontrunner in sustainability. All of the wood fiber it uses comes from sustainably managed, certified or controlled northern forests, and is 100% traceable. The company takes advantage of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to improve the functionality, recyclability and brand impact of all the packaging it produces.

NAAREA: From nuclear waste to clean, decarbonized energy

In France, NAAREA is developing XAMR® (eXtrasmall Advanced Modular Reactor), a pioneering micro nuclear power plant fueled by radioactive waste to generate abundant, carbon-free energy. To speed up development, the startup company is modeling, testing and validating the fast neutron micro reactor virtually first.

Pacific Consultants: Considered, sustainable infrastructure

Japanese civil engineering firm Pacific Consultants designs erosion control weirs to stop mud and landslides as well as infrastructure that contributes to the sustainable development of society. The company says its job is to consider the people who use the infrastructure and how it will impact their lives and the future.
