YUUE design studio, concerned about the large amount of waste in the bike-sharing industry, decided to use design as a tool to rediscover abandoned shared bikes and transform their parts into practical and beautiful furniture, which will be displayed on the streets of Berlin, Milan and Beijing. How did the design concept of YUUE apply the characteristics and beauty of parts themselves to practical and beautiful daily necessities instead of deliberately transforming them?
Designers use simple production methods and universal accessories to minimize production costs. And by reducing the production cost, the production of this product can be accepted and realized by most factories. "Upcycling of Shared bikes" was exhibited at 751D·PARK during the Beijing design week in 2019, causing people to reflect on environmental issues and the current Internet economic model.
“Reuse” and "Upcycling" offered a different approach to recycling: incorporate bike parts into the design to maximize the bike's full cycle and minimize unnecessary waste of resources. Through creative design, the waste resources are utilized to provide a different idea of resource recovery, which is consistent with sustainable consumption and production mode adopted in sustainable development goal 12.
